Founded in 2008 by a nurse-turned-therapist, Joanita Figueiredo, has an interesting story to tell. Figueiredo completed a six-week Teacher’s Training Course in Thai Massage, at Chiang Mai’s Old Medicine Hospital, Thailand. She began teaching massage therapy to the National Association for the Blind, initially volunteering in Nashik.
Soon Joanita realised that nobody was really interested in employing the visually-impaired folks! that was the time when Joanita decided to employ them herself. Therefore, before opening the doors to her Bandra spa, Figueiredo taught her therapists to speak English alongside training them in basic customer service etiquette.
Through this one-of-a-kind move, Mettaa Foot Spa seeks to challenge societal norms and preconceived notions about disability. Every therapist here, is a symbol of courage, and perseverance.
