Connecting Mumbai to Goa, a highway stretch of 555 km has been under construction since 2011. However, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to unfold a 42 km-long, one-side lane of Mumbai-Goa Highway, from Panvel to Kasu in Raigad district, before Ganeshotsav 2023.
The said highway will provide relief to hundreds of migrants who will travel to their hometowns in the Konkan region to celebrate Ganeshotsav on Sep 19. As per NHAI officials, 32 km of the said cemented stretch out of 42 km (Panvel to Kasu) has been completed and the remaining work is still underway.
460 km out of 555 km of the Mumbai Goa Highway lies in Maharashtra till Patradevi in Sindhudurg district. While 84 km out of the 460 km is being constructed by the NHAI, the remaining 376 km has been taken up by the state Public Works Department (PWD).
PWD has completed 266 km of the stretch and aims to finish work on the remaining 88 km by December 2023. A per a PWD official, the work on the 376 km stretch has been divided into 10 packages for smooth execution of the project, starting from Mangaon, Raigad district to Patradevi in Sindhudurg district, respectively.
