As Mumbai gears up to officially roll out legal bike-taxi services under the newly notified Maharashtra Bike-Taxi Rules, 2025, another shared mobility service is hitting the brakes. Starting Saturday, July 12, Uber Shuttle, Uber’s premium bus service, will halt operations in the city after being flagged as illegal by the state transport department.
The service, which ferried thousands of daily commuters from suburbs like Panvel, Kalyan, and Bhayandar to commercial hubs like BKC and Worli, was running as a “pilot” without the required Stage Carriage permit. With over 100 routes and nearly 500 buses, Uber Shuttle had gained traction, especially among office-goers.
Following Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik’s directive, RTOs have launched a crackdown on unauthorised shuttle services. Uber has confirmed the service will pause from Saturday and has asked its bus partners to halt operations. However, there’s still no word on when or if it will resume.
