Goa curfew extended till 5th July due to rising threat of Delta Plus variant of COVID-19

Earlier, the curfew in Goa was scheduled to be lifted in the morning hours of June 28. However, on Saturday, the Chief Minister of Goa informed via Twitter that the state-level curfew will be extended till 5th July. This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure against the Delta Plus variant of COVID-19. While no cases of this new strain have been reported in Goa as of yet, its neighbouring state Maharashtra has recorded 21 cases, which is the highest tally noted among all states in India.

Jaipur's SMS Medical College now houses country's first state-level genome sequencing lab

In a bid to increase the COVID vigil, the govt of Rajasthan has set up a genome sequencing facility at the Sawai Man Singh Medical College in Jaipur. Pegged to be the first of its kind across India, the laboratory has been developed at the cost of ₹1 crore of the state's fund to identify the various mutants of the novel coronavirus. Goa bolsters screening at Maha border amid increasing threat of Delta Plus strain

The state of Goa has raised alarms in view of the rising threat of the Delta Plus mutation of the coronavirus in Maharashtra. As such, the administration has increased COVID screening along its overlapping borders with South Maharashtra.
