41 districts in Uttar Pradesh declared COVID free

UP seems to be on a path to recovery, with 41 districts reported as COVID-free. Reportedly, none of the 75 districts in the state have recorded daily COVID cases in double-digits lately, suggesting a downward trajectory of this viral disease in the state. Curfew extended in Goa till September 20 to curb impending 'third wave'

Rajasthan successfully vaccinates over 5 crore of its eligible population against COVID-19

In a landmark achievement, Rajasthan has successfully managed to administer the COVID-19 jab to over 5 crore eligible citizens. According to a press release of the Rajasthan Health Ministry, the state had provided around 5,00,78,073 coronavirus vaccines, as of 4 PM on Monday evening. With this, around 16.5% eligible population of the state has been fully vaccinated, while 48.5% have received the first dose shot.

IIT Bombay, QIMR & Agilent Tech develop method to screen severity of COVID patients

Researchers at IIT Bombay and Australia's QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, with the support of Agilent Technologies, have formulated a quick screening method to gauge the expected severity of COVID-infected citizens. This process will differentiate patients based on their probability of experiencing severe or mild symptoms. With an accuracy of 85% in the pilot study of COVID sufferers, this test could be used to triage patients at the hotspots of the deadly virus, in the future.

Lucknow's SGPGI sets up a 50-bed paediatric ward ahead of the expected 'third wave'​

In view of the looming threat of the third COVID wave and the increased possibility of infection in children, the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Science in Lucknow, has set up a dedicated pediatric ward here. The 50-bed facility has been centred at the old OPD of PGI's main building. As per reports, the ward is equipped with ventilators, oxygen support and other life-saving equipment, essential for COVID care.
