COVID crisis escalates in Goa; state reports more than 300 fatalities in the past 5 days!

COVID treatment SOPs altered in Goa with over 200 fatalities marked in the last 4 days!

Alerted by inflating death tallies in the state, the Goa administration has laid out new standard operating procedures for COVID patients. According to the new protocols, infected individuals who do not require external oxygen support will also be admitted to hospitals, to be kept under continuous observation of the doctors. 2 oxygen plants to be set up in Goa in a bid to alleviate the state's LMO crisis!

After a dire shortage of oxygen was witnessed in Goa, the state Health Minister apprised the citizens that two oxygen plants will be established in the territory. Further, the Chief Minister has himself taken the charge of oxygen management, to ensure a continuous supply of this medical necessity for COVID patients in the state. Goa records highest single-day COVID tally on Thursday, with 757 new infections!

After hovering around the 500-mark for over a week, Goa's COVID count breached all records on Thursday, registering a total of 757 new infections. With this unprecedented spike, the active cases in the state soared up to 5,682 while the cumulative count of COVID-affected individuals stood at 64,572. Sanitation workers engaged in Goa Health Department's COVID-19 teams to be immunized first

Ahead of the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccination in the country on the 16th of January, Goa received 23,500 vaccine doses on Wednesday and the authorities have already earmarked 8 hospitals for the first phase of the immunization process. Further, the Dean of the Goa Medical College stated that sanitation workers who have been a part of the state Health Department's COVID-19 teams, will be the first recipients of the vaccine.
