COVID cases continue to rise in Goa; 1992 test positive on Sunday

With a fresh load of 1,992 fresh COVID cases in Goa, the state continued to be under the grip of the pandemic on Sunday. With this, the case positivity rate in the coastal state shot up to 24.76% on January 9, up from 23.75% the day before. Curbs imposed on gatherings in Goa; no night curfew for now

On Friday, the Goa state government announced restrictions to be put on crowded places in the state. While these restrictions will be in place throughout the day and night, the administration has currently ruled out a complete night curfew. This is because crowds have been identified as the primary cause of the surge in Covid cases. Meanwhile, Goa reported 1,432 total cases and 2 fatalities in the past 24 hours, up from 971 cases in the previous day.

971 new cases recorded in Goa on Thursday

Amid the rapidly moving COVID resurgence, a fresh load of 971 new cases added to the health concerns on Thursday. The case positivity rate (CPR) of both the state districts has swiftly moved from below 5% to more than 10%, in the last 14 days. According to the latest records, North Goa's weekly positivity rate (December 30 to January 5) stands at 18.77% while that of South District is at 15.51%. Goa's daily CPR, as of Thursday, has increased to 20.5%, added reports.

Witnessing the spread of coronavirus infection at an alarming rate, Goa has recorded the highest single-day rise in seven months on Wednesday. With a total of 1,002 fresh COVID cases reported on Wednesday, the active caseload of this viral infection in the coastal state has crossed the 3500-mark now. Marking a spike of 4% from Tuesday, the positivity rate of the state has climbed up to around 17.8% yesterday.
