Accelerating the pace of vaccination in top gear, Uttar Pradesh has crossed the 24-crore vaccination mark. As many as 24.47 crore doses have been administered in the state, including 24.26 lakh doses on Thursday. According to the health officials, more than four crore doses have been administered since the start of January which means an average of about 20 lakh doses were being administered every day.
Lucknow leads the charge
In terms of vaccinations, Lucknow tops in both in the number of people vaccinated, and the number of vaccines administered (68.17 L) followed by Prayagraj, Azamgrah, Jaunpur, Bareily, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi and Ghaziabad also administering over 50 lakh doses. Data from CoWin portal shows that, over 14.92 crore people in the state have taken the first dose of the vaccine. This includes over 70 lakh adolescents, in addition to the 18 plus population. The total administered doses also include 6.50 lakh precaution doses given to health and front-line workers and elderly persons with comorbid conditions, which began on January 9. The number of fully vaccinated persons is at 9.28 crore. With the calculation suggesting that the adult population is at 14.74 crore, health officials said that 96 per cent of eligible persons have taken the first dose while 64.1 per cent are fully vaccinated.

The credit of this achievement goes to the health workers, front-line workers, and people associated with the administration along with every citizen who took the vaccine voluntarily. Reportedly, UP CM has set a target of ensuring 100 percent first dose coverage of the adult population in the state by the end of January. Notably, over one crore doses were administered in the state in just four days!
Closely following Uttar Pradesh’s lead is Maharastra, where 14.52 crore doses have been administered so far, next is West Bengal at 11.66 crores, followed by Bihar at 10.87 crores and Madhya Pradesh at 10.87 crore doses so far.
