With the rainy season in full swing here in Lucknow, it’s not uncommon to hear about snake sightings in your neighborhood. But it’s important to remember that these seemingly sinister creatures are just going about their own snakey business.

What are some things to keep in mind?

Keep an eye out for monitor lizards, especially around drains or inside your house. Despite the myths, these creatures are usually harmless and not venomous. If you find one outdoors, just let it be. If it enters your home, try to guide it back outside.

While venomous snake sightings are rare in Lucknow, it’s crucial to know what to do in case of a snakebite. If possible, take a picture of the snake for identification, then seek immediate medical attention at the nearest Government Hospital. Avoid tying any cloth or band around the bite area as this can potentially lead to gangrene.

If you come across a snake, it’s essential to notify the forest department through their helpline number immediately. After making the call, keep an eye on the snake’s movements and location to assist the rescue team while maintaining a safe distance.
