With an aim to restore the rich culture and heritage of the city, Indore Smart City Development Ltd has been renovating heritage properties in town.
A cornerstone of Indori history is the Rajwada Palace. Built in 1766, this architectural marvel denotes the historical might of the Holkar empire. For years now, authorities in Indore have made efforts to restore Rajwada Palace, however, due to various reasons, the reconditioning was left incomplete.
Refurbishment to be completed within 30 days
In order to ensure the safety and durability of the structure, IMC Municipal Commissioner inspected the restoration work being done on each floor of the seven-storey Palace, in addition to the main gate.
IMC commissioner, Pratibha Pal, ordered the completion of the renovation at Rajwada Palace by July 30. As per the latest upliftment order, waterproofing for all the wooden structures in the building has to be done, since the monsoon season has arrived.
As of now, repair work for bridging architectural joints with wooden, as well as stone pillars, is being done on each floor of the Palace. Almost 80% of the major work has been done. For the remainder, manpower will also be increased to complete work in 30 days.
Long-standing Wheels in Motion
The renovation was first instructed in 2017, with a deadline of two years which was then extended multiple times. The move to restore this heritage property was ordered post the recommendation of Dr Arum Menon.
