Inspired by the famous robbery drama, Money Heist, Indore Municipal Corporation on December 20, launched the ‘Gang of Plastic Heist’ campaign. The goal is to end the usage of single-use plastic across the town’s markets and shopping hotspots. It also aims to educate citizens about the ill-effects of single-use plastic on the environment. A three fold initiative, its ultimate goal is to make Indore a plastic-free city.
Gang of Plastic Heist: A step towards plastic-free Indore
This one-of-its-kind initiative is a joint attempt of IMC and local NGOs to bring out change in society at a local level. A total of four local NGOs have been tasked to run the campaign under the guidance and leadership of IMC officials. As per the reports, the Gang of Plastic Heist will cover 29 local markets including, Sanjay Setu, and Riverside road markets, and several others.
A ban on single-use plastic was implemented at the national level on July 1, as per the directives of the central government. Since then, Indore Municipal Corporation has initiated various drives and awareness campaigns to end its usage.
Now, this month-long drive will include awareness programs and the distribution of cloth & jute bags. Moreover, shop owners, residents, and visitors will also be penalised after the initial warning under the intiative, Gang of Plastic Heist.
To bolster the reach of the campaign, IMC has also asked the citizens to report the use of single-use plastic on the Indore 311 app.
