Featuring around 1,900 different species from across India, a National Fish Museum and Repository is all set to open its doors for the general public on Friday, April 14. The new fish repository in Lucknow will feature preserved fish species like shellfish and finfish along with other specimens from brackish water environments.
The repository will also store cryo-preserved fish sperm of 31 species
Coming up on a 52 acre ICAR campus in Lucknow’s Telibagh, this fish museum in Lucknow will be the first-of-its-kind, boasting the largest collection of preserved fish in Uttar Pradesh. Apart from being home to nearly 1,900 different fish species, the museum will also have preserved fish sperm from 31 species that can be used to retrieve endangered species if needs be.
The repository will be inaugurated by ICAR’s director-general on April 14. Once up and running, this new fish repository in the city will not only help students and researchers but is sure to be thronged by ichthyophiles in Lucknow, as well.
