Mumbai residents can expect some relief from traffic congestion as Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) prepares to partially open its connection to the Coastal Road. From July 11, two plus two single lanes will be accessible at Thadani Junction, marking a significant milestone in the project’s completion.
Nearly 91.58% of the Coastal Road project is complete, but not all lanes can open due to ongoing work on the northern side. The Coastal Road (South) Project, aimed at easing South Mumbai’s traffic congestion, promises a 70% reduction in travel time and 34% in fuel consumption, also curbing noise and air pollution.
While the entire project is slated for completion by October 2024, this partial opening follows the successful launch of two ‘Bowarch String’ girders in May, connecting the coastal road to BWSL. The northbound carriageway from Marine Drive to Haji Ali opened on June 10, and authorities are working to extend this to Khan Abdul Gaffer Khan Marg.
The 10.58-km Coastal Road stretches from Princess Street Flyover to the Worli end of BWSL, with the northbound carriageway operational since March 12.
