After a rather dry spell, it seems that the rains are about to come back to Mumbai. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Mumbai, starting today till September 25. This means, thunderstorms with lightning splash and light to moderate rainfall are expected.
According to a report from the Indian Express, a cyclonic circulation has developed over the west-central Bay of Bengal. This has kicked off a windy current over Marathwada and central Maharashtra, leading to a convergence zone that could unleash sporadic downpours. Moreover, at the moment, temperatures in these areas are above normal.
Now, it’s also the season for monsoon withdrawal in places like Saurashtra and central India, which means a bit of thunderstorm activity is quite par for the course.
