Maha Kumbh Mela, held once every 12 years, is set to attract millions of devotees to Prayagraj for the month-long spiritual fair in January and February 2025. To manage the surge in pilgrims, Western Railway has announced eight pairs of special trains at special fares, connecting key cities in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh with Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Among the special services, two trains will cater to passengers travelling from Sabarmati (Ahmedabad) to Banaras.
Maha Kumbh Mela Special trains from Sabarmati Station
Sabarmati–Banaras Maha Kumbh Mela Special
Train No. 09413, the Sabarmati–Banaras Maha Kumbh Mela Special, will operate 10 trips. The train will depart from Sabarmati at 11:00 AM and arrive in Banaras at 2:45 PM. This train will run on the 16th of January and the 5th, 9th, 14th, 18th of February, 2025. The return journey, Train No. 09414 Banaras–Sabarmati Special, will depart from Banaras at 7:30 PM and reach Sabarmati at 12:30 AM on the 17th of January, and the 6th, 10th, 15th, 19th of February, 2025.
Key stations along this route include Mahesana, Ajmer, Jaipur, Agra Fort, and Prayagraj. The train will feature AC 2-Tier, AC 3-Tier, Sleeper Class, and General Second Class coaches to accommodate diverse passenger needs.
Sabarmati–Banaras (via Gandhinagar Capital) Maha Kumbh Mela Special
The second service, Train No. 09421 Sabarmati–Banaras Special, will operate six trips. It will depart from Sabarmati at 10:25 AM on the 19th, 23rd, and 26th of January. The return leg, Train No. 09422 Banaras–Sabarmati Special, will leave Banaras at 7:30 PM on the 20th, 24th, and 27th of January, arriving at Sabarmati at 1:25 AM.
This train will halt at multiple stations, including Gandhinagar Capital, Mahesana, Palanpur, Abu Road, Ajmer, Jaipur, Agra Fort, Prayagraj, and Gyanpur Road. The coaches will include AC 2-Tier, AC 3-Tier, Sleeper Class, and General Second Class compartments.
