The University of Bristol has received approval from India’s University Grants Commission (UGC) to establish its first international campus in Mumbai, set to open in 2026. The decision, announced during the fifth anniversary of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aligns with Bristol’s strengths in technology, innovation, and the arts.
Mumbai campus to focus on tech & innovation
Proposed to be located near central Mumbai, the campus will offer programs in data science, economics, finance, AI, and immersive arts, with plans for scholarships under its Think Big initiative. Vice Chancellor Evelyn Welch called it a “pivotal transformation” in the university’s 150-year history.
On the 5th anniversary of NEP 2020, UGC issued Letters of Intent to 4 leading UK & Australian universities to set up campuses in India at the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam, 29 July 2025.
