Mumbai’s rainfall surpasses 600 mm in September, second wettest since 2021
Mumbai has recorded 606 mm of rain this September, making it the city’s second wettest since 2021. Following heavy showers, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has lifted its alerts for the city. With rainfall exceeding 100 mm in some areas, September’s rainfall is already significantly higher than the average of 380 mm, with the wettest September on record being in 2024.
Navi Mumbai’s DB Patil International Airport gets green light from DGCA
The new Navi Mumbai International Airport has secured its crucial Aerodrome Licence from the DGCA ahead of its planned inauguration. This paves the way for commercial flights to begin, aiming to alleviate congestion at Mumbai’s current airport. In its first phase, the airport, officially named after the late leader D B Patil, is slated to handle 20 million passengers annually.
BMC to restart road concretisation in Mumbai after monsoon break
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to resume road concretisation in Mumbai after a four-month break. With a ₹17,733 crore budget, BMC plans to concretise 700 km of roads, starting with 365 km of 1,350 roads. The project, delayed by the monsoon, is expected to finish 64% of phase one by early 2025, with 776 new roads set for completion by 2027.
Maha allows 24/7 operations for most shops, excluding liquor establishments
The Maharashtra government has clarified that all shops and establishments, except those selling liquor, can operate 24/7. This directive follows complaints from traders and business groups about restrictions on non-liquor establishments. Under the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments Act, 2017, businesses can remain open if employees receive a weekly 24-hour rest period. Salt Pan land in Mumbai to make way for IAS Gymkhana, EVM Warehouse
