The Uttar Pradesh government has approved nearly ₹1,000 crore in fresh funding for the Lucknow Green Corridor, giving new momentum to the city’s flagship east–west connectivity project. The allocation is expected to ease financial bottlenecks and accelerate construction. With funding secured and tenders due to be finalised shortly, focus has now shifted to completing Phases 2, 3 and 4 by mid-2026.
Project overview
The Lucknow Green Corridor is a 28 km urban infrastructure project being developed by LDA to enable uninterrupted, high-speed road connectivity from IIM Road in the west to Kisan Path in the east. The corridor is designed to ease congestion, cut travel time and support the city’s riverside and urban transformation.
Phase-wise Status
Phase 1 (IIM Road to Hardinge Bridge/Pakka Pul | 6.8 km)
Connecting Basantkunj to Pakka Pul, this phase has been operational since January 2024. Traffic is moving smoothly, although the formal inauguration is still pending.
Phase 2 (Hardinge Bridge/Pakka Pul to Pipraghat Bridge | 9.6 km)
This phase is nearing completion. It extends from Samtamulak Crossing to Pakka Pul in Daliganj via Nishatganj section. The Samtamulak Crossing to Nishatganj stretch is almost complete, with finishing work currently underway at the Nishatganj junction.
Phase 3 (Pipraghat Railway Bridge to Shaheed Path | 5.9 km)
Construction is set to be fast-tracked following the funding approval. The phase includes a proposed flyover from Baikunth Dham to La Martiniere Boys’ College to bypass the heavily congested 1090 crossing. It also features a 2.2 km flyover linking the corridor to G-20 Road, improving access to Shaheed Path and Kisan Path.
Phase 4 (Shaheed Path to Kisan Path | 6.3 km)
Tenders are likely to be finalised soon, with construction expected to progress alongside Phase 3.
An official associated with the project said the Green Corridor, including both Phase I and Phase II, is likely to be inaugurated together, subject to the Chief Minister’s schedule.
Traffic relief and impact
With over 20 lakh registered vehicles in Lucknow, the Green Corridor is expected to deliver significant relief along some of the city’s busiest routes. Once Phase 2 becomes operational, daily travel between Gomti Nagar, the city centre and Daliganj is expected to reduce to 10–15 minutes, benefiting more than one lakh commuters every day.
