The traffic system and the traffic management in Lucknow is in a misery to say the least. People here have no consideration for traffic signals and traffic rules. This disregard mixed with the much revered “nawabiyat” leads to endless traffic jams, quarrels and accidents which could be avoided had people paid any attention to rules.
To ease the traffic flow, curb the laziness and the disregard that people have for traffic rules, authorities had introduced “Integrated Hi-tech Traffic Control System” (IHTCS) some time back.
What is Hi-tech Traffic Control System (IHTCS)?
IHTCS is an advanced traffic monitoring system, which would serve as vigilant overseer, capturing every single movement and keeping track of every red light crossed and rule broken.

Not just that, with the help of these traffic control systems, rule breakers will be served e-challans, which is to be paid in full or to be answered for in court.
These systems come under Lucknow Smart City initiative, hence, the systems themselves are smart and do not miss much.
Under the project, all crossings in the city are to be equipped with this high-tech traffic management system which will help with better traffic flow all throughout the city. The system has already been installed at major crossings such as Samtamulak Chowk in Gomti Nagar and Sikanderabad Chauraha (near Saharaganj) in Hazratganj.
Though, the IHTCS is a great initiative which will help a lot with Lucknow’s growing vehicular population and the increasing traffic issues, it will prove to be a bitter pill to swallow for Lucknowites, who for long have stayed dependent on bribes and the administration’s lack of means to hold them responsible.
