In a meeting convened by the district administration, people of Lucknow will be allowed to park their vehicles for free in the shopping malls and complexes, for the first 30 minutes. Even on weekends, there is going to be no extra charge.
After 30 minutes, Rs 30 will be charged on the parked vehicles for the next four hours, which will keep increasing by Rs 10 every hour.
This move has been made in order to curb the situation of haphazard parking of vehicles on the road. In order to avoid paying the parking fee, people park their vehicles haphazardly, which results in congestion of the roads.
The decision will be implemented from February 1 and will hopefully help in curbing the vehicular congestion around complexes and shopping areas.
Almost all the major markets in Lucknow have parking facilities, however, to avoid paying the parking charge, people don’t make use of the facility. Bhoothnath market in the city is the example of the same.
Despite the facility of an underground parking, the market remains jam-packed, due to cars being parked in a wrong manner. Residents of Bhoothnath area, who reside on the road parallel to the market, regularly face the problem of vehicles being parked in front of their houses.
