The Pink City is brimming with activity, history, culture and vibrance round the clock. The city is magnificent in every way, but at the same time the city is unable to keep up with the growing population and with that, comes an increased amount of toxic and general waste. Since the waste is often left in the roads and in main localities of the city, it gives a poor impression of Jaipur. Now, to combat this, the government is setting up RFID (radio frequency identification) based garbage collection which will help in managing waste in the Pink City, Jaipur.

Earlier in the year, the authorities had planned a new system for Jaipur, wherein they had roped in a private company to help with door to door garbage collection on a regular basis. In the long run however, the move did not turn out to be successful owing to the irregularity of the programme. Now, with the help of RFID tags, authorities can get an idea of the defaulters, and can streamline the entire process in a better way.
Once this system is introduced, households will be fixed with RFID tags that can be read and overseen by the operators at various locations. The RFIDs will become active when the garbage collectors are present on site to collect the waste, scan it with the RFID and the data will automatically be fed to the main control room
The facts
In order to install the RFID tags, residents of the city will have to pay a one time installation charge of just ₹100. As of now, the programme is active in 30 wards of Sikar and soon, will be implemented in other areas as well.

RFID tags will help monitor the garbage collection in real time. At it’s core, the goal of the project is to streamline waste collection in the city and make Jaipur cleaner for all.
The move comes as a boon for residents in all areas of Jaipur. With the roads and streets often plagued by the waste, it becomes an eyesore for all. Additionally, the city will also be an improvement for tourists, who can now go back with a different impression of the Pink City.
