SLATE (Strategic Learning Application for Transforming Education), is Lucknow University’s in-house online learning portal of the Lucknow University, created to provide “360-degree online classroom” experience. LU has received its first copyright and trademark of SLATE, with the intention to monetise the technological invention that was meant for students confined to their homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
SLATE to be monetised with trademark
Developing an alternate, structured means to conduct classes during home confinement amidst a pandemic, the Lucknow University has been granted the first trademark and copyright authority over SLATE in a century. The Vice-Chancellor Professor A.K. Rai said, “This is for the first time in the 100 years’ history of Lucknow University that a copyright has been registered in the name of the institution.”
“The online mode of teaching emerged as a good option during lockdown but it does not offer a complete solution” added Professor AK Rai. With the advent of this pandemic, a lot of institutions were faced with the problem of initiating online classes due to lack of infrastructure. “The online mode of teaching emerged as a good option during lockdown but it does not offer a complete solution” Rai said. With this portal, any educational institution can adopt SLATE, providing royalty to the university of Lucknow and upgrade their teaching apparatus with the establishment of a combination system.
The Vice-Chancellor pointed out that, “The need of the hour is a ‘hybrid system’ – a combination of online and on-campus education. Lucknow University has decided to go ahead with the hybrid system even after COVID-19 subsides because the content can also be delivered to students in remote areas.”
