In a bid to strengthen the guard against the fatal contagion, the Goa state government has made vaccination compulsory for schools teachers, with an exception. As per the rules, all healthy school teachers will have to take the immunity booster jab and only those with a certain medical condition will be exempted from the regulation. Announcing the latest decision on Wednesday, the Chief Minister affirmed that the intervention would help in protecting the students.
Proper medical certificates required in case a teacher wants exemption
The Chief Minister said, “Our expert committee has suggested that all teachers will have to be vaccinated. The exception is for those who have medical problems. They can produce (medical) certificates and avail of relaxation. Otherwise, there will be compulsory vaccination.”
If a teacher suffers from a health issue, he/she will be required to produce a certificate verifying the presence of the condition. The said individual can avail of the relaxation only after proper documents are shown regularly. Earlier, reports had stated that non-vaccinated teachers will be required to show negative COVID reports every week. Besides, the administration had also asked teaching and non-teaching to ensure that their family members are inoculated at the earliest.
Physical classes to resume soon with the dropping infection graph
While all classes are being held on the online platform currently, it is expected that schools will reopen for the students soon, given the dropping infection count. In view of this, the mandatory inoculation of teachers comes as a needed step for assuring the safety and security of the students.
As per records, 227 new cases and 197 recoveries were logged in Goa on Wednesday and the state has 1,788 active patients currently. Cumulatively, 1,69,215 infections have been recorded till now and 3,101 deaths have been registered in the state.
