Ahmedabad became the first city in Gujarat to take a notable step to address the longstanding issue of wrong-side driving, particularly problematic at exit points on underpasses. This practice has been a major cause of traffic jams and accidents, prompting authorities to implement an innovative solution – the installation of tyre killers equipped with metal spikes. While these spikes function effectively as regular speed breakers for vehicles traveling in the correct direction, they puncture the tires of those attempting to drive against the flow.
However, doubts have emerged about their effectiveness. Within just two days of installation, the spikes have sustained notable damage, and reports suggest inconsistent functionality. Despite plans for further implementation, these early challenges emphasize the necessity for a thorough evaluation of the initiative’s durability and performance. As Ahmedabad strives to address wrong-side driving, ensuring the reliability and long-term viability of such solutions remains paramount.
