Assuring augmented welfare for the residents, the Goa government has rolled out a new project to ensure free water supplies for the households in the territory. As per reports, each house is eligible to get 16,000 litres of free water supply under this scheme, which was initiated on September 1. Reportedly, the Chief Minister mentioned that Goa is the first state in the country to have come up with such an initiative.
Scheme to reduce water bills for all state residents

Labeled as the ‘Save Water to Get Free Water’ scheme, this project was inaugurated by the Chief Minister on Tuesday. Addressing a press meet for the launch event, the CM stated that the state envisions promoting water conservation with this scheme. While the households will not be charged for water consumption of up to 16,000 litres of water, the citizens will also be encouraged to practice such measures that are conducive to saving water.
As per reports, individuals living in flats or complexes will also be able to take advantage of this scheme. It is expected that 60% of the state households that record a water usage less than the stated limit, will be able to get water without any cost. Further, it will help in reducing the water bills of all homes across the coastal state.
Citizens to be incentivised for consuming water below the stated limit
Mahesh Deshmukh, a local resident said, “This decision of the state government will be highly beneficial for the citizens. It will motivate us to save water, as people will get an incentive for consuming less than 16,000 litres.” If the objectives turn into reality, the state government will be able to reduce water wastage, to a great extent.
