Known for its cultural heritage and food offerings, the cleanest city of India, Indore has added yet another achievement to its kitty. As per reports, Indore's 56 Dukaan and Sarafa Bazaar have been recognised as the 'Clean Street Food Hubs' by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Reportedly, Indore has now secured a place in the group of metropolitan cities like Mumbai and Ahmedabad, that have been awarded the same accreditation.
56 Dukaan bags the feat for the second time!
As per reports, the FSSAI recognition is valid for a period of 2 years and it is presented for adopting sound measures for garbage disposal, personal hygiene, separation of cooking and non-cooking areas, streetlights, pest control and cleanliness.
Notably, this is the second instance that 56 Dukaan has bagged this feat, after the first winning in 2019. In addition to this, Khajrana Ganesh Mandir was conferred with FSSAI's BHOG (Blissful Hygienic Offering to God) certificate in 2019.
Reportedly, the certification process for Sarafa Bazaar's night street food market began in 2020 but it got interrupted due to the pandemic. Now, the two markets have received the honour after a third-party audit was conducted, a few days ago. Additionally, the joint-owners of Sarafa Bazaar and 56 Dukaan have been apprised with the FSSAI regulations. Besides, they have also been trained to maintain sufficient hygiene and cleanliness.
Good practices helped the markets to clinch the prestigious tag
According to reports, the street food markets have been accorded this tag for a range of good measures. This includes the use of quality raw material in food, different refrigerators and equipment for veg and non-veg food. Besides, reports state that the workers here, are checked regularly for any medical problems.
Additionally, FSSAI rules entail that all employees must wear gloves and head covers, and ensure personal hygiene. Further, shops have been directed to use RO water, use steel utensils and deploy proper measures for cleaning the soiled plates. While the two food hubs are loved by tourists and locals alike, the latest accomplishment will only elevate their position as attractive food-centres.
