Indore bags the Smart Cities India Awards 2022 for She Kunj & multi-level parking

Taking more achievements under the belt, Indore has been awarded in two categories at the Smart Cities India Award 2022. During the award ceremony in Delhi, the city won Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Innovative Award for She Kunj and the Smart Parking Innovative Award for a two-wheeler multi-level parking in the middle of the city.

Pink toilets at 25 locations across the city

According to Indore Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Pratibha Pal, there are around 25 pink toilets or She Kunjs across the city. Four of these public toilets are now functioning at Chappan Dukan, Vijay Nagar, Meghdoot Garden and Palasia while the remaining are yet to open for use. All of these toilets have been built on a PPP model for the convenience of women when they step out.

The facility will be equipped with baby changing stations, toilets, breastfeeding rooms, etc. The toilets also have a diaper and sanitary pad vending machines installed along with a sanitary pad incinerator. The service will be made available free of cost to the public.

Multilevel two-wheeler parking

The automated multi-level two-wheeler parking is the first of its kind in the country. Hence the innovation has brought a well-deserved award to the city. Often two-wheeler parking areas crowd up public places like markets, busy streets, etc. The parking situation gets particularly difficult due to the ongoing development projects in the area. Multi-level smart parking provides a solution to this problem.

This smart and efficient use of space will help remove illegally parked two-wheelers from the roads, especially in crowded areas. As per the officials, two models have been proposed for the initiative, Centralised Mechanical Parking, which can be built on a 1200 sqft area and Roadside Mechanical Parking which can park at least 60 vehicles at once.
