The Jaipur Development Authority is aiming to increase the city’s green cover index with its plan to develop the 113-hectare extension of Silvan Park on Agra Road. Pegged to stretch as big as the iconic Central Park in Jaipur, the new open space will add on to the city’s foliage, significantly. As per reports, the new park will be developed at the cost of ₹10 crores approximately.
A theme-based park is on the cards for Jaipur
The Jaipur Development Authority has pipelined the construction of various parks in different city zones to bolster the idea of sustainable development amidst city expansion. Besides their green advantages, these open spaces will be dubbed as a means to redeuce travel time in the city. As per reports, the work to develop the upcoming park at Agra Road will begin as soon as the consultancy firm prepares the final design.
According to a JDA official, the new park will be an extension to the existing Silvan Park and is being conceptualised to be one of the biggest parks on the city outskirts. The presentation to develop the space was given on November 3, wherein a land parcel near Kanota was also earmarked to start the development.
A theme-based set-up is on the cards for the new green space, suggested reports. Over 50,000 shrubs and trees will hoist the park’s greenery, which will include a wide variety of indigenous species as well.
Master Plan 2025 & Jaipur green foliage extension scheme
The installation of green spaces is also being promoted to reduce pollution in Jaipur. It has been highlighted that less than 10% of areas in the city are under the green cover. This is significantly lower than the mandatory 20% subscribed by the Master Plan of 2025. The JDA has been involved dynamically to meet these requirements and earlier, it was planning to develop woodland parks and plant trees here. However, the plan was soon discarded in wake of unsatisfactory results.
As per the Master Plan, the entry roads from Delhi, Sikar and Agra were also supposed to hold a green corridor, stretching for at least 30-45 meters on either side of the route. However, the plan could not be taken off due to a land crunch, read reports. The current plan is both effective and feasible, added officials, and will define boundaries in new colonies to plant trees here in a bid to increase the green spread.
