In an attempt to boost the public transportation facility in Kanpur, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation is speeding up the expansion work of the current metro corridor now. Out of the 23-KM long Corridor 1, only a 9-KM elevated corridor from IIT Kanpur to Motijheel is currently operational in the city. The UPMRC is amping up the construction work of 4 proposed metro stations to complete the work on the priority corridor of Kanpur Metro.

After running successfully for two months, the Priority Corridor on Kanpur Metro is set to add more stations soon. As a part of this project, UPMRC is taking up the metro work at the underground section from Nagaygnj and Chunniganj in full swing. The four proposed metro stations for Corridor 1 include Nayaganj, Bada Chauraha, Naveen Market and Chunniganj.
The Managing Director of UPMRC Kumar Keshav visited the construction sites and directed the officials to speed up to ensure the project gets completed within its stipulated deadline. As per the officials, the proposed metro stations are expected to be completed by 2024. In addition to this, the second corridor of Kanpur Metro which will begin from CSA University and end at Barra 8 is also expected to conclude by 2024 as well.
