Fueling the establishment of Kanpur Metro’s maiden corridor from IIT-K to Motijheel, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation officials have deployed multiple measures throughout the past year. As per the latest developments, 500th U-girder was placed near Geeta Nagar metro station on Saturday. Reportedly, the authorities have been successful in laying the framework of 7 out of 9 km stretch on this route, with the help of streamlined interventions.
Track beams installed at 8 out of 9 stations

As per reports, the first U-girder was installed in August last year and now the 500th block has been laid within a span of a year. Further, reports state that a total of 600 U-girders will be a part of this metro line and the casting of only over 30 blocks is left, now. Additionally, track beams have been established at 8 out of 9 stations, which would bear the complete load of the trains and the partial weight of the metro stations.
‘Utility identification & diversion’ process started on the underground line

The authorities have started the utility identification and diversion process as part of the underground phase of Kanpur Metro. As a part of this, telecom cables and sewage pipes will be located on this route and they will be shifted to other areas if need be. Reports state that the activity is usually performed by manual excavation but Kanpur metro officials are deploying the advanced Ground Penetrating Technique, which spots underground obstacles through radio waves.
As per reports, four underground stations are being built on priority between Chunniganj and Nayaganj. In order to start the drilling and construction, the officials need to make sure that they do not disrupt the underlying utilities. It is noteworthy that this stretch of the Kanpur metro line is the second part of the first phase of implementation.
