A memorial school to a 200-acre university

Established in 1862, in the memory of the first ever viceroy of British India, Charles John Canning, as a two-room institute in a haveli, this property later became one of the most recognised universities in the country.
A 1919 bill proposed to turn the college into an university and a century later, it is standing tall as one of Lucknow’s pride.

Lucknow University is an institution in the city (in both literal as well as figurative terms) and a feather in Lucknow’s cap, that we residents are exceptionally proud of. LU has been a symbol of pride and nostalgia for the city and it still remains as the most sought after education institute here.
With a plethora of courses, an in-campus hostel, library and what not, Lucknow University is no less than a relic. Lucknow has long been known as the advocate of fine arts, culture and higher education and that is exactly what the university stands for.
What the university is also known for, is its stunning architecture, the sprawling grounds and the iconic ancient building.

With 100 years under its belt, Lucknow University is a place we all remember fondly; even if we haven’t actually studied here, most of us have been to the university at one point.
The campus is as stunning as it can be and it is difficult to find another campus which can compete with LU’s beauty.
