IMD issues Yellow Alert in Lucknow; light rains to bring a dip in mercury today

Lucknow's maximum & minimum temperatures of the day balance at 23°C & 12°C, respectively

In line with the ongoing western disturbances active in Afghanistan, Pakistan and adjoining areas, the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted rainfall across Uttar Pradesh today. In wake of this, the meT has also raised a 'yellow alert' in Lucknow for the next 24 hours, in the likeliness of thunderstorms and isolated showers. Reportedly, this bout of unseasonal rain will further mark a drop in temperature in the city and neighbouring regions, intensifying the winter wave here.

Minimum temperature to dip as low as 12°C today

The maximum temperature of the day is expected to balance at 23°C in Lucknow today. The minimum temperature will witness an 11-degree drop, going as low as 12°C, read reports. This mercury fall and the consequent cold wave will persist for the next 24 hours, thickening the fog across Lucknow and satellite areas. According to IMD forecasts, there are chances of hailstorms in the eastern parts of UP today.

The winter rains have been pelting over UP since Monday, where the western part of the state witnessed light showers. The eastern counterparts, on the other hand, remained comparatively drier. As per the director of the Zonal Meteorological Centre, JP Gupta, scattered, light to moderate rains or thundershowers may hit isolated places in the central and northern parts of Uttar Pradesh tomorrow as well.
