While we keep hearing about steps taken towards women empowerment in India, the all-women market concept is a lesser-heard concept. In a rather off-centre step, UP will soon get its first-ever all-women market in Lucknow, and it will be operated entirely by a female-centric staff.
For the women
This all-women market will be 3-storeyed with some 125 shops, confirmed Lucknow Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia. A widespread underground parking area of 2,848 square metres will also be constructed here, which could fit at least 40 four wheelers at a time.
When it comes to the technical details, the soil testing and inspection of the area, that the market will be located in, has been implemented and overseen by the mayor.
“Till now, operating shops in the market was exclusively a male domain and women were limited to the role of sales girls but this market is only meant for women traders, businesswomen and, entrepreneurs,” she explained.
“I want women to be empowered in the true sense. They will only get empowered when they are financially strong and start earning themselves,” she added, talking of the idea behind the move.

Hoping to take a step closer to fulfilling the dream of women empowerment and financial independence of females in the city, this all-women market in Lucknow can be a turning point in the mindsets of the cityites.
