Ahead of International Women’s Day, an informal meeting of female councillors in Lucknow was organised on Sunday. Amidst an array of discussions related to issues of women’s safety and security, it was decided that the females in the city will be soon be gifted with a special market, only for the women. While men will not be permitted in this establishment, it is also proposed that only woman shopkeepers will be allowed. With female retailers and consumers, this facility is surely going to be one of its kind!

The new shopping market will host an array of items ranging from clothing, cosmetics, accessories to women’s essentials. Planned to be launched with an objective to upgrade the facilities available for women in the city, this initiative takes inspiration from the multidimensional Mission Shakti program of the state government.
While Lucknow Municipal Corporation will deliberate upon the site and budget of this project in its upcoming sessions, the establishment works will be implemented soon after the plan is finalised. As per sources, the municipal officers are already looking for suitable land to execute this scheme.
Speaking to Knocksense, the Mayor said, “This new facility shall have amenities of pink toilets, baby feeding centres and creche areas. These creches will be available for children so that women can shop easily while their kids spend quality time.”

In a timeline of 100 years, the city has got its first female mayor. Given this fact, the municipal corporation is committed to working on welfare schemes that can renovate the current facilities besides adding more resources. All suggestions related to these areas are being welcomed and suitable plans are being developed to materialise all aspirations. The Mayor envisions that the female population of the city must be empowered and strengthened in order to ensure a better future for them.
