Construction of Lucknow’s much-awaited East–West Metro corridor (Blue Line) will begin in October. Backed by a ₹5,801 crore budget, the 11.2 km route will link Charbagh to Vasant Kunj, enhancing connectivity for nearly 10 lakh residents of the old city. To ease traffic during construction, stations will be built 5–10 metres away from intersections, avoiding bottlenecks at busy crossings.
Faster commutes, minimal disruption
Lucknow’s new East–West Corridor will stretch 11.165 km, from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj with 12 stations, 7 underground and 5 elevated, covering key areas like Aminabad, Chowk, and KGMU. To manage traffic during construction, metro stations will be built 5–10 metres away from intersections, preventing bottlenecks at busy crossings.
The route has been divided into four sections with traffic flow and choke points already mapped. Barricades will be strategically placed so that vehicles can move alongside construction. In densely populated areas, advanced Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) will be deployed under the supervision of experts from Spain and Italy. These machines minimise vibrations, ensuring no damage to heritage homes or old city structures.
Blue Line promises early delivery
The ₹5,801 crore project, set to begin in October, aims for completion within five years, though officials are confident it will be finished ahead of schedule. Once operational, the Blue Line is expected to take nearly 2.5 lakh vehicles off the road daily, providing a long-term solution to the city’s traffic congestion.
