In a significant milestone, BMC has successfully installed the first giant Girder (bow arch string girder) on the Mumbai Coastal Road Project. This connection will now link the Mumbai Coastal Road with the Bandra-Worli Sea Link route. The girder, termed as “India’s largest bowstring arch girder on open sea”, was launched at 3:25 AM on April 26.
Municipal Commissioner and Administrator, Bhushan Gagrani, along with Additional Municipal Commissioner (Eastern Suburbs), Dr. Amit Saini, graced the project site to witness this historic moment. Further, Gagrani lauded Deputy Commissioner (Special Engineering) Shri. Chakradhar Kandalkar, Chief Engineer (Mumbai Coastal Road Project) Shri Girish Nikam, and all the dedicated officers, engineers, and employees, were acknowledged for their achievement.

The 2,000-metric-ton arch bridge, a critical component of the Coastal Road Project, set sail from Mazgaon Dock’s Nhava Unit at 12:30 pm on April 24. Stretching from Worli to Nariman Point, the Girder spans 136 meters in length, with a width ranging from 18 to 21 meters.
Following shortly after the installation of the first Girder, a second Girder is scheduled for installation, marking the commencement of the next phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project.
