This Teachers’ Day, we remember Sir Oliver Andrade, a distinguished educator and coach whose legacy still resonates in Bandra, especially Joggers’ Park. Revered as “Sir” by his students, Andrade profoundly influenced the city’s sports scene, coaching hockey and football at St. Theresa’s Boys High School, St. Stanislaus High School, and Sacred Heart Boys High School.
Much like Sir Ramakant Achrekar shaped Sachin Tendulkar’s cricketing career, Sir Andrade played a pivotal role in developing generations of athletes in Bandra.
Andrade- A Coach, a Leader and a Visionary
For decades, Sir Oliver Andrade was the driving force behind sports at St. Theresa’s, St. Stanislaus, and Sacred Heart Boys High Schools. His coaching, which emphasised discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, earned him the beloved title “Sir” and left a lasting impact on countless students.
But Andrade’s contributions went beyond the field. As a former corporator, he envisioned Joggers’ Park, turning a neglected seaside dump yard into a vibrant community space. With determination, he enlisted Bollywood stars, navigated bureaucratic challenges, and secured local funding to bring his vision to life.
In 2022, Joggers’ Park was renamed in his honour, celebrating a man who nurtured athletic talent and community spirit. The park, now home to Mumbai’s first laughter club, remains a testament to Andrade’s belief in the power of green spaces for well-being.

Sir Oliver Andrade’s story exemplifies how exceptional teachers can impact entire communities, leaving behind legacies that inspire long after they’re gone. The park, now a cherished community space, embodies Andrade’s dedication, providing a welcoming spot for joggers, families and Bandra residents to enjoy.
The plaque at the entrance inscribed with, “A Gift From ‘Sir’ with love”, reflects the heartfelt appreciation of those who he influenced.
