Goa readies PICUs & task force to safeguard kids during predicted third wave

The Goa government learnt a tough lesson during the second wave of corona transmission, when the state registered the highest infection positivity rate in the country. Taking lessons on preparedness from failures of this time, the state government has launched preparations to combat the predicted third wave, which is believed to affect children.

As per reports, the government is working in coordination with AIIMS to produce SOPs for the management of COVID in children. Further, it has decided to increase the number of Paediatric ICUs and has deployed a special task force to deal with the upcoming situation, among other things.

Lifeguards & differently-abled citizens categorised as frontline workers by Goa's Health Dept

In a move to benefit lifeguards and differently-abled citizens of Goa, the state's health department has classified them as frontline workers. This latest notification will ease the process of inoculation for both sections of society and help them fight the second wave of COVID. While the vaccination of lifeguards begins today, i.e., 25 May, the schedule for vaccination for differently-abled will be released post-consultation with the Social Welfare Department of Goa.

COVID treatment SOPs altered in Goa with over 200 fatalities marked in the last 4 days!

Alerted by inflating death tallies in the state, the Goa administration has laid out new standard operating procedures for COVID patients. According to the new protocols, infected individuals who do not require external oxygen support will also be admitted to hospitals, to be kept under continuous observation of the doctors. COVID-19 cases continue to loom over the 3000-mark for the second consecutive day in Goa

Goa is battling a volatile rise in the number of coronavirus infections each day and the surge continued to cast horror on Thursday, with 3,019 new detections. This is the second consecutive day when fresh tallies have breached the 3,000-mark in Goa, waking an alert across all districts. As per reports, recoveries have been rising continually in Goa, up to 914 on Thursday, however, due to the increased pace of virus transmission, an 81-hour lockdown has now been imposed here to break the chain of infection effectively.

North Goa District Hospital to be converted into a COVID facility amid state's high infection spike

In a bid to boost Goa's recovery amid the surging spell of COVID-19 infection, the state Health Minister on Monday, stated that the government is to convert the North Goa District Hospital into a dedicated coronavirus treatment facility. The hospital will provide with additional number of beds and oxygen supply in the present scenario of high demand and severe shortage. Located about 9 km from Panjim in Mapusa town, this hospital was not treating coronavirus patients, until now.
