In a move to benefit lifeguards and differently-abled citizens of Goa, the state’s health department has classified them as frontline workers. This latest notification will ease the process of inoculation for both sections of society and help them fight the second wave of COVID. While the vaccination of lifeguards begins today, i.e., 25 May, the schedule for vaccination for differently-abled will be released post-consultation with the Social Welfare Department of Goa.

In the latest notification issued by the state health department, Goa has categorised lifeguards and differently-abled citizens as frontline workers. This decision will surely help in speeding up the process of vaccination across the state, thereby, helping Goa in its fight against the pandemic.
The coastal line of Goa is manned by lifeguards, appointed by a private agency, who are responsible for saving the lives of those who visit the beaches and riverfront. Their vaccination shall commence from 25 May. As per reports, lifeguards will have to avail a certificate from the state’s tourism department in order to validate themselves for this process.
As far as the vaccination process for the differently-abled persons is concerned, the state health department shall prepare a strategy in consultation with the Social Welfare Department. This consultation will be done to ensure that the differently-abled face no inconvenience when they arrive for vaccination, the schedule for which will be announced at a later date.
Latest case tallies in Goa
The tally of covid cases in Goa, as of Monday, stood at 1,47,861 and the overall death toll is 2,421. Further, the number of black fungus infections reported at Goa’s Apex Hospital has entered double digits, as 10 cases have been reported until yesterday. However, the silver lining among all the states statistics is that of the number of recoveries, which are documented to be 1,29,162, till date.
