Amid the concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to develop a digital database to log health records of all students in Mumbai Public Schools (MPS). Presently, Mumbai civic body is working on a dedicated software to store this information, lining up the launch of the scheme with the onset of the new academic year in June.
As per reports, the newly developed data forum will enable the municipal body to retrieve health-data records of any child on a single click.
BMC to run check-up drives to collate health data
Mumbai civic body will hold in-school health camps and check-up drives to collect and collate students’ health records digitally. This will enable the authorities to intervene proactively if any child is suspected to develop health or medical issues.
Noteworthily, this is not a one-time initiative. The BMC Education Department plans to run periodical health check-ups, and tests to monitor specific health or medical condition of a child from time to time. In addition to this, it will also keep a thorough record of a student’s medical history, with past treatments and ongoing treatment, on the same digital database.

The recorded information can be exercised for the benefit of student if they are in need of expert medical tips or attention officials said. If need be, the education department will also enable students to get free of cost health check-ups at civic-run hospitals.
The data log will further help to run regular vaccination drives, and keep an automated tally of those who have received and are yet to receive the vaccination. This will essentially help the BMC to vaccinate its young student population against COVID-19 and other viral diseases that are surfacing every day.
Reportedly, the initiative is being backed by several NGOs across Mumbai, with the goal of inculcating good health along with quality education in the youth of today and the leaders of tomorrow.
