Flying lanterns or Chinese lanterns are often seen flooding the skies amid the Diwali season. However charming they may seem, the flying lanterns use an open flame to float, which is quite dangerous.
As these lanterns start burning out, they descend from the sky and start falling randomly on the streets or above houses which could cause fire and endanger human lives. Owing to this, the Mumbai police has decided to place a ban on the sale, use and storage of these lanterns all over the metrolopolis. The ban will be in place till November 14 and strict action will be taken against flouters.
Notably, the sale and usage of Chinese lanterns is deemed illegal in many countries as they not only dangerous for humans but also pose a threat to the environment.
