From a College Canteen to a Thriving Cafe
Kasturba Cafe’s story began at Gujarat Vidyapith. Hitesh Donga along with six of his friends, started serving food at their college campus canteen. Their “ghar ka khana” like meals, prepared with fresh ingredients, were a huge hit with students.
Inspired by this response, Donga decided to open a cafe that offered healthy, home-style food at affordable prices. Their focus on Gujarati Thalis quickly garnered a loyal following.
A Thali for Every Budget
Today, Kasturba Cafe thrives in a modest yet welcoming space near Usmanpura Cross Road. It specialises in Gujarati Thalis for lunch and dinner. The best part? You can get a basic thali for just ₹49! They also offer thalis at different price points, with additional items included.
The cafe’s biggest thali boasts two types of shaak (vegetables), Rotli (flatbread), Navtaad Samosa, Khichdi, Daal (lentil soup), Kadhi (yogurt curry), Chhash (buttermilk drink), Keri no Ras (mango curry, a summer special), Papad (fried lentil wafers), and more. The shaak selection changes daily, so check their WhatsApp channel for the latest menu.
Simple Yet Satisfying
The food at Kasturba Cafe is all about simple, delicious, and home-cooked flavors. Students, working professionals, and families flock to the cafe, many becoming regulars who appreciate the quality and affordability.
