Mumbai continues to endure sweltering heat and stifling humidity as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) maintains a Yellow Alert for the city and its outskirts. Thursday saw temperatures ranging between 34-35°C, exacerbating discomfort due to oppressive humidity.
The IMD foresees the continuation of these conditions in Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar.
Absence of rainfall, yet clouds will linger
On Thursday, Mumbai recorded a high of 36.0°C, while the minimum hovered around 28.0°C. Friday dawned with clear skies as predicted by the IMD, promising a sunny day ahead. Forecasts indicate a minimum temperature of 28°C and a maximum of 34°C, with humidity levels remaining very high at around 31.7°C.
The weekend is anticipated to commence with minimum temperatures of 27°C, with similar conditions expected for the coming week, albeit with a slight decrease in temperatures. The IMD’s outlook doesn’t include any rainfall, but clouds are expected from Tuesday to Thursday, maintaining the prevailing humid atmosphere.
Mumbai’s Air Quality Index (AQI) for PM10 particles is currently at 71, labelled ‘satisfactory’ by SAFAR-India. While this indicates decent air quality, caution is advised, with AQI levels expected to persist between 100 and 200. Residents are urged to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions amid the humid spell.
