On this day, November 26, 2011, one of the most thrilling cricket matches took place at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, where India faced off against West Indies in a Test match. The noteworthy factor? It is considered one of the most extreme cricket draws of all time!
The match was even more remarkable as it marked only the second instance in history where a Test match ended in a draw with level scores. The first such occurrence took place at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo during the 1996-97 series between England and Zimbabwe.
The match, which was the third one in the series was held at the Wankhede Stadium of Mumbai. In a thrilling match, West Indies posted a massive 590 in their first innings, with Darren Bravo leading the charge, scoring 166. India responded with 482, trailing by 108 runs, thanks to a solid knock of 103 from Ravichandran Ashwin.
In their second innings, the West Indies were bowled out for just 134, with Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha picking up 6 and 4 wickets, respectively. Chasing 243 to win, India struggled to maintain momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals. Despite a fighting 60 from Virender Sehwag and 63 from Virat Kohli, India fell short.
The match ended in a dramatic draw, as Ashwin was run out on the final ball, leaving both teams with the same score.
