Indore witnessed its coldest day and night of the season on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, as temperatures plummeted to a chilly 8.7°C. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the daytime temperature also dropped sharply to 22.1°C, officially marking Tuesday as a “severe cold day”.
This year, winter’s minimum temperature in Indore is notably lower compared to previous years. In 2023, the minimum temperature was recorded at 11.6°C. Indore’s record for the coldest temperature remains 1.1°C, which was set in 1936.
Intense cold wave in Madhya Pradesh
The western part of Madhya Pradesh is enduring an intense cold wave, with both day and night temperatures experiencing sharp drops. IMD scientist Abhijeet Chakraborty from Bhopal, highlighted that icy winds have intensified the chill, making the weather feel even more biting.
Adding to the wintry discomfort, visibility was notably reduced to 4,000 meters in the morning, while wind speeds peaked at 19 km/h. Despite the severe cold, the city remained dry, with no signs of rain or drizzle.
With winter tightening its grip, IMD has forecasted a further decline in temperatures across Madhya Pradesh. Residents are urged to bundle up and take necessary precautions, especially during the early morning and evening hours when the cold is at its peak.
