The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is set to transform the city’s Haider Canal stretch, between Kalidas Square and the DGP residence, into a vibrant recreational zone. LDA Vice-Chairman Prathamesh Kumar, during an inspection on Saturday, announced plans to develop a 950-meter green valley with native plants, walking pathways, a cafeteria, and an entertainment zone.

New roads, green valley, and Butler Lake revamp in focus

The ₹20-crore project includes strengthening the canal with RCC drains, stone pitching and safety railings. The area will also feature horticulture, landscaping, seating areas and public amenities like toilets and a guard room.
In another development, the 920-meter Bandha Road from Balu Adda to the DGP residence, costing ₹3.6 crore, is set to open in 10 days, easing traffic congestion. Meanwhile, Butler Lake’s beautification, including a pedestrian bridge, gazebo, and lighting is complete, with treated water supply from Dali Ganj STP to be operational soon.
Kumar also reviewed Butler Palace’s façade upgrade and checked employee attendance via facial recognition at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Sthal. With these projects, Lucknow is inching closer to becoming a greener, smarter city.
