For the first time since 1943, Mumbai’s prestigious Campion School welcomed girls into its classrooms this week from July 14, marking a historic transition from an all-boys institution to co-education. The change begins with Nursery and Junior KG, where 38 girls have enrolled alongside boys, part of a planned 50-50 gender ratio for future admissions.
Co-ed format, woman principal, and curriculum revamp
The school has revamped its infrastructure with gender-inclusive spaces and onboarded female educators and staff. Marking another first, Sarah Justin Thomas now leads as the school’s first-ever woman principal in its Jesuit-led legacy.
Alumni like entrepreneur Niranjan Hiranandani and photographer Atul Kasbekar praised the move, calling it long overdue for modern education. Meanwhile, parents of twins and mixed-gender siblings welcomed the chance for brothers and sisters to study together.
Alongside this shift, Campion has adopted the Cambridge Early Years curriculum, introducing tech-integrated classrooms and experiential learning, a new chapter for the 80-year-old institution.
