When in Goa, ‘bringing the house down’ might seem like a bit of a bore sometimes. The pulsating music, dancing lights, socialising with strangers, trippin’ over Mary Jane, blah blah doesn’t always sound like a good idea!
So during such occasions when you just wanna lay back and chill over good food, head over to Sakana here on the main Chapora road, in Anjuna. Known for serving authentic Japanese cuisine, Sakana is a slice of Japan here in Goa which will give you a break from the generic Goan experience!

All About the Vibes & Food!
As you step in, the usual Goan noise drowns out. Not many people are aware of this underrated gem in the city which makes the ambience relaxed and free-spirited. The dark teak-wood interiors complemented by a shade of currant-red upholstery and warm yellow lights, propels our senses to an epicurean world far-away from the boundaries of Goa.
They even have a Sakura tree in the centre which has ‘blossoming’ pink flowers made of paper, which deceives the eyes at first glance and is a lovely addition to the basic decor here.
As soon as you sit here, you’ll be welcomed by warm smiles and even warmer greetings and if you ain’t a sushi-veteran, just ask for their best recommendations! Sakana is known to often import a lot fo their ingredients and produce all the way from Japan to keep their servings as authentic as possible.
For starters, go for the Sakana red snapper sashimi, which is an absolute delight. The tender slices of fish paired with a zesty sauce and sake to wash it all down, is what we’re looking forward to again. They also have a stock of dry Japanese beer known as Asahi, which you can pair up with any dish and it’ll still flow down like a dream.

The kingfish teriyaki and the tofu teriyaki served with bowls of sticky rice and hot miso soup is the ultimate main course here. The zingy teriyaki sauce and the heady wasabi flavour in the miso soup is an absolute stunner! They even have chicken sushi and although it sounds a bit unusual, the taste is worth all the money spent.
To end your meal on a sweet note, pick their passion fruit chocolate tart, which is the hands-down winner for us when it comes to desserts here.
