Kanpur Metro has been the passion project and the newest undertaking of the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation. Only a few days ago, the construction work of the Kanpur metro began when the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh laid the foundation stones of the metro last month.
New reports suggest that the work for the metro is gaining traction and Kanpur may very soon get its first metro depot. The news is, that along with its newest depot, Kanpur may soon have a new Polytechnic campus.

LMRC (Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation), who is spearheading the initiation and work of the Kanpur metro project has acquired land for the construction of its first depot in the city. The land which belongs to Kanpur Polytechnic has already been acquired by the metro department.
The land near Gurudev Palace is owned by Kanpur Polytechnic, which is an active institute with running batches and courses that cannot be shifted altogether. Though LMRC, Kanpur Polytechnic and concerned civic authorities are looking for a solution to the issue, it is believed that a compromise will be struck.

It is expected that LMRC will develop Kanpur Polytechnic along with Kanpur metro’s first depot. A similar model was followed in Lucknow, when the campuses of paramilitary forces and the metro facilities were built together.
Since, the provided land by Polytechnic campus is enough for the construction of metro depot, several building in the Polytechnic campus have already been demolished. Hence, we expect the development to be sped up making sure Kanpur gets its first depot very soon.

LMRC has made sure that the construction work for the development of Kanpur Metro is carried out flawlessly, we expect the metro to soon start taking shape. If the same model of development is followed in Kanpur that was followed in Lucknow, Kanpur will very well get a new metro depot and a newly made Polytechnic campus.
