On its worst COVID day, Lucknow reported 4,449 new cases, taking the total aggregate count to 1,07,412 cases, raising alarms as the highest tally across Uttar Pradesh. As prevention, the state has imposed fresh restrictions by capping the number of devotees entering a religious place at a time. The decision was announced late on Saturday night, as a proactive measure, to check the COVID rise during the upcoming festive season of Navratri and Ramzan.
On Monday, more than 3890 fresh COVID cases were reported in Lucknow and 13,685 cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh.

In wake of the rising COVID infection, the active caseload now stands at an alarming high of 22,000+ infections that has led to a shortage in bed vacancy in city hospitals. As a result, the state government has decided to convert 3 hospitals, Era Medical College, TS Mishra Medical College and Integral medical College, into dedicated Covid facilities to patch the massive crunch.
The Chief Minister directed officials to arrange for at least 2,000 ICU beds immediately and another 2,000 Covid beds must be arranged within a week. On Sunday, the Balrampur Hospital also started the Covid facility. He also allocated one hospital each to the Medical Education Minister, Principal Secretary (Medical Education) and Secretary (Medical Education) and the Balrampur Hospital to the state Health Minister.

As per reports, the authorities will be tasked to start the process of converting the hospital into COVID facilities. They have to ensure that there is sufficient trained manpower available at all four hospitals, including ventilators and high flow nasal cannula.
The district magistrate has been directed to ensure that there is no shortage of oxygen in any Covid hospital in the district.

The Chief Minister further said that comprehensive contact tracing was needed. To boost this, “At least 30-35 people who could have come in contact with a positive person have to be identified and tested. Ambulances should be linked with the integrated command and control centre so that patients can get ambulance services on time. There should be ‘nigrani committees’ in every village and in every block of the urban local body,” he said.
While the CM stated that all containment zones will be monitored strictly and nobody will be allowed to enter or leave, things look different for Lucknow’s Raja Bazar area which was sealed on April 10. People are roaming about freely even as markets have been closed here, following the dense COVID infection. As per reports, over 20 infections were found here, following which district administration completely sealed the area.

The Chief Minister focused on the need to carry out cleanliness, sanitization and fogging drives across the district to maximise hygiene. This should especially be done at bus stations, railway stations, airports, crossings and all crowded places, he said, adding that police, fire services, housing development and development authority should assist in this exercise.
The Chief Minister also directed the police commissioner to initiate a dialogue with traders and shopkeepers so that social distancing can be maintained in markets. Only 50% staff is now permitted to work from offices, in both public and private sector. Until April 16, all people have to abide by the state-imposed night curfew in the Lucknow municipal area from 9 PM to 6 AM
